Motorcycle Insurance

In most states, it’s required that motorcycle riders have liability insurance. The purpose of liability insurance is to pay the other party involved in an accident, if you are at fault for it. Usually because the damage caused by a motorcycle isn’t as great as the damaged caused by an automobile. Therefore, liability coverage for motorcycles has a reasonable price.

Some other protections to take into consideration are collision and comprehensive coverage, which is meant to cover your vehicle, with the exception of mechanical breakdown coverage. Collision coverage is meant to protect you when you collide with something, for example a tree. Comprehensive coverage, which is sometimes referred to as Other Than Collision, is protection for situations of theft, flooding, or fire. Some policies will actually pay the actual cash value of the motorcycle.

You should also consider medical coverage for your passengers. This is known as guest liability. Guest liability can be very valuable if you are the cause of an accident and your passenger gets hurt. You can also buy coverage to cover your own injuries.

For protection against uninsured drivers, you can purchase uninsured motorist coverage. Some states limit uninsured motorist coverage to just your medical bills, and in other states you can purchase coverage for your motorcycle should it be damaged because of an uninsured driver.
